They are both buried in the Old Panther
Cemetery. A veteran, William was
discharged from the Army in 1864. His
residence was in Jasper, Arkansas which is
north of Swain, AK. The story is that William
always had a sawmill where ever he lived and
this is probably true since they lived around
the national forest area. Apparently when the
war was going on, the home place in Jasper
was burned and William left the war to take
care of his family and was charged with
desertion, but later returned when his family
was OK.
